American news sources are reporting that JAY PROCTOR – one time leader of JAY and the TECHNIQUES is seriously ill. Proctor has recently had surgery for colon cancer.
Jay and the Techniques hailed from Allentown, Pennsylvania and were one of the first groups to feature a racially integrated line up. Working with Jerry Ross they scored 60s hit with catchy pop soul numbers like ‘Apples, Peaches, Pumpkin Pie,’ and ‘Baby Make Your Own Sweet Music.’
After the hits dried up, Jay went solo and his most recent recoding was 2006’s ‘Still Got Flow’ though he still worked the oldies circuit with various incarnations of the Techniques.
