Washington’s (via Liverpool!) JALEN NGONDA is (for sure) everyone fave new kid on the soul block. He’s being bigged up everywhere – and rightly so. His album, ‘Come Round And Love Me’ has become something of a contemporary classic.
So, if you want more of Mr N (and why wouldn’t you) head straight to the Daptone web site where the venerable label is gearing up to release a new vinyl 45 on our man! The feature side is a gorgeous ‘Here To Stay’ – a song recorded for the album, but, for some reason, left off! It’s proper mix of classic and contemporary soul that perfectly suits Jalen’s soaring soul voice. In places (particularly) the haunting organ intro it might just remind you (just a little) of Barbara Lewis’ mighty ‘Hello Stranger’! Yes, it’s that good!
The disc’s flip is a familiar song – ‘If You Don’t Want My Love’ which was track 2 on the aforementioned long player. Always worth another run out!
