Latest release from brand leading soulful house label, QUANTIZE brings together two of the biggest names in the business … THOMMY DAVIS and TASHA LARAE.
By common consent Baltimore’s Thommy boy is a proper soulful house don. He’s been in the business for something like 40 years working with people like Jump Street Records, the Basement Boys, Teddy Douglas, Mass Order and Ultra Nate and of course there are his acclaimed collaborations (like this new one) with fellow Baltimorean, DJ Spen.
Ms Larae has an equally impressive CV. Hailing from Omaha, Nebraska but working (chiefly) out of Atlanta, Georgia, in 2008 she became the new lead female vocalist in Arrested Development. She’s out there on half a dozen of their albums but in recent years she’s moved more and more into soulful house territory, with her 2019 album ‘Tasha’ becoming a favourite with house heads. And the good news is that her second solo LP ‘Brown Stones & Blue Skies’ is coming via Quantize next year.
So bearing in mind all the above you can expect soulful fireworks when Thommy and Tasha get together and this new collaboration – ‘The Real Thing’ delivers firepower a plenty! Music know-alls will recognize the tune straight away. It was of course written by Stevie Wonder and first recorded by Sergio Mendez & The New Brazil 1977, though Vanessa Williams cut a decent version too!
Here Thommy and Tasha update the whole thing making it perfect for the upcoming Yuletide Jollies! Listen up to the lovely vibes ! This ‘Real Thing’ is an imprssive taster for Tasha’s upcoming album.
‘The Real Thing’ out now via Traxsource promo. Full release December 6th 2024 on Quantize Recordings.
