IT’S PHUNKY UP NORTH …

IT'S PHUNKY UP NORTH ...

Musically, one of the most interesting developments over the last twelve months has been the number of new, young bands embracing funk. Recently, new age MAMA’S GUN started to make major waves with their album, ‘Routes To Riches’. Now, with a sound that’s more classically funky come the aptly named PHUNK. Currently a five piece working in and around the North West, the band have a four track demo on offer with the lead cut ‘Why Do We Do’ standing out, though dyed-in-the-wool soulsters might want to pass on the POLICE sound-alike ‘Walking On The Beach.’ Vocalist LEE CAPIE cites the band’s influences as STEVIE WONDER, SLY STONE, JAMIROQUAI and er… THE POLICE. Other band members are – Guitar: COLIN FOSTER, Bass: GARY CHAMBERS, Drums: JIM LEWIS and Sax: NICKY SUFFELL. PHUNK formed during autumn 2007 almost by accident – when different band members got together in an Ormskirk studio and discovered a mutual love of all things funky… since then they’ve gigged hard and put together a number of demos and even recorded a live DVD.
