We’ve featured Detroit-based indie soul musician PAUL RANDOLPH in these hallowed pages plenty of times in the past. So, you’ll know that he can play guitar, bass and percussion… oh, and sing out soulfully. You might also know that his first exposure to music was via his jazz trombonist father; then after graduating with a degree in marketing from Central Michigan University, Paul decided to ditch commerce and make a career in music.
His CV to date boasts work with people like Tony Allen and Dennis Coffey and work with funk and blues band Mudpuppy. That led to gigs with Amp Fiddler, Carl Craig, iSoul8, As One, Catz n Dogz, Makoto, Tettory Bad, Zed Bias, then , the Berlin-based, Jazzanova and more recently Kathy Kosins.
So it’s always good to have new music from him, though his latest single isn’t totally new. The cut is ‘Don’t Take It Personal’ – which Mr R first released back in 2017. Back then it was credited to Wahoo featuring Paul Randolph, though Paul was the co-author.
Whatever, the song’s back with us in a brand new mix – a “Sir Nigel Randolph Reimagination”. This new tweak is big and ambitious and like much of Paul’s work, expect the unexpected. This one’s a grower. Out now!
