MICHELLE SARAH is a blue-eyed soulstress who was born in Toronto, but she was raised in Guyana and the States growing up in the righteous Gospel tradition. She now works out of Denver, Colorado and is currently working on a long player (due later this year) from which she’s just released the lovely single ‘No Crime’.
She says: “This song is a declaration, an empowerment, and I think the full message is loud and clear. The track is a statement that there’s no crime in being in touch with your emotions–in fact, it’s an invitation to do so” and, sonically, the whole thing is “loud and clear”. Beautifully produced by Steve Berlin, there’s a definite 60s vibe about proceedings here – gorgeous brass work, jazzy guitar and warm Hammond fills under a heartfelt, soulful vocal from Michelle. In some ways this one reminds me of those great Kylie Auldist cuts… you know, classy contemporary soul with a nod to the organic, sweet sounds of the genre’s golden age.
Corny, I know, but it would be a crime to miss this one! Out now on Color Red.
