It’s been 15 years since Harmless Records first unleashed the inaugural volume of the hugely successful ‘Pulp Fusion’ series and to mark and celebrate said occasion, on September 6th the company are putting out a new volume, subtitled ‘The Return Of The Original Ghetto Jazz & Funk Classics.’ The new 2-CD set features 28 cuts (compiled by ace crate digger, Dean Rudland), including rough, tough, funky ghetto grooves from the likes of Gil Scott-Heron, Yellow Sunshine (their self-titled classic funk jam), Dexter Wansel, Norman Connors, Lonnie Smith, Milt Jackson, Deodato, Pleasure, Patrice Rushen, Nathan Davis, Eddie Russ (his flute-led rare groove classic, ‘Lope Song,’ as sampled by the Young Disciples), Reuben Wilson and Gene Ammons. A surprise inclusion is Don Ellis’ powerful driving groove, ‘Theme From The French Connection.’ A great set – be sure not to miss it. The release date is September 6th.
