Last month we opened up something of a Christmas mystery! LRK RECORDS told us they were about to release a very special seasonal 7” single on the fierce, feisty funkateers BELLA BROWN AND THE JEALOUS LOVERS.
Pre-orders went live even though the track title was kept a secret – well now the Christmas cat’s out of the Christmas sack! This new Bella B song is titled ‘Always Christmas Eve’ and it’s an enchanting track offering a modern twist on classic soul, beautifully celebrating the spirit of Christmas while conveying a message of hope and joy in our increasingly imperfect world. It’s a good one. Sonically, it’s a brassy, Southern soul ballad and Bella delivers with her usual passion and yes, there are the expected seasonal cliches (sleigh bells for instance) but you can’t argue with the sentiments and the commitment … and, what a change from the usual Christmas turkeys!
The 45’s B side is radio edit of Bella’s big, percussive, funky and feverish ‘Soul Clap’ – not, as you well know, the Booker T tune! It’s a tough original and was the title track on Ms B ‘s last album.
