Multi-instrumentalist/songwriter/studio engineer and producer ALAN EVANS has plenty of outlets for his music… he’s a founding member of Soulive, 1/3 of the Alan Evans Trio, and half of The 7 Day Weekend and for his latest outing he’s assumed a fresh image …. CRUSHED VELVET & THE VELVETEERS and they hit the ground running with a heavy slice of contemporary funk… ‘Good Thang’.
The single features a big, big vocal from KIM DAWSON (known for her work with bands such as Matador Soul Sounds and Pimps of Joytime). Evans provides bass, drums and guitar. Additional instruments are played by Evans’ musical allies … Darby Wolf on organ, Pete Aleksi playing 2nd guitar, Brian “BT” Thomas on trombone, Alex Lee-Clark on trumpet, Tucker Antell on alto and tenor saxophone and Jared Sims on baritone saxophone. Between them they cook up some proper funk channelling a sort of Marva Whitney sound.
‘Good Thang’ is out now on 7” vinyl on the VLM label and we’re told that there is a full Velveteers album on the way.
