Late 70s Philly band BREAKWATER are enjoying something of a renaissance lately. The extended mix of their ‘No Limit’ oldie was one of the feature tracks on this year’s ‘Soul Togetherness’ album and we’re told that the band have been lined up to star in next January’s Blackpool Luxury Soul Weekender.

Now, under the auspices of Expansion’s Ralph Tee, Breakwater are working on a new album which is set for release early next year. The long player is heralded by a just released digital 3 track EP. The lead cut is a quite lovely ‘Gift Of Love’ and those who despair that proper grown up soul music isn’t being made any more, will be totally surprised.

‘Gift Of Love’ is a gentle affair with sweet harmonies and lovely brass figures underpinning the delicious melody and heartfelt vocals. No wonder Ralph has singled it out to be one of the focus cuts on Expansion’s upcoming ‘Luxury Soul’ album.

It comes highly recommended and Mr Tee says: “Expansion are delighted to release brand new music on Breakwater, the group from Philadelphia that gave us two iconic albums in 1978 and 1980. For me it’s a dream come true to work with Breakwater.”
