Now based in Denmark, Italian born multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer ALEX PUDDU is nothing if not prolific. Hardly a month goes by without him releasing a single or two and over the last few months he’s treated us to cuts with either a Japanese bent or an Italian flavour. We were told that there were Japanese and Italian albums on the way. Well, we wait patiently for the Japanese one, but the Italian one’s just been released via his label Al Dente.
The album is ‘Deliria’ which we think means “delirium” in Italian and it’s a 10 tracker of mainly electro disco flavours with vocals in Italian. The singles we mentioned are included – ‘Liquore Alla Menta’, ‘Pullover Grigio’, ‘Texas Blonde’ and ‘Champagne e Giochi Di Coppia’. Those cuts (indeed the whole album) offer Puddu’s trademark sounds – deep bass lines, funky synths and tight glitter ball rhythms. Tempos vary, of course, and some are more sensual than others but the emphasis is on creating a soundscape redolent of, we’re told, “the soulful disco, Italian grooves of the late 70s / early 80s, indie pop and electronica, and will appeal to fans of contemporary Italian acts”.
We’d say it’s niche music – like the aforementioned ‘Liquore Alla Menta’ (tune and drink) an acquired taste but if its’s your taste, it’s out now via Al Dente Records
