At the back end of last year, UK singer/songwriter, ALICE RUSSELL made a comeback of sorts with a new single, ‘Rain’. The sombre, reflective piece was Ms R’ ‘s first new music for something like ten years and it was co-written and produced alongside long-time collaborator TM Juke. It’s a very personal song addressing the urgent need for us all to be self-reflective, so we can truthfully communicate and connect with those around us and the world we inhabit.
Though the message remains the same, Alice’s ‘Rain’ is brightened up considerably in a new remix from Tru Thoughts label-mate WheelUP (aka West London’s Danny Wheeler.) The new soundscape is, we believe, what is now known as “bruk-boogie” – we’d say crisp and edgy, pacey and energetic. Mr WheelUP explains: “It was a big honour to be asked to remix legendary singer and Tru Thoughts legend, Alice Russell, her vocals are so pure. I flipped the remix with a broken beat/boogie sound to get the moves flowing on the dancefloor.” Out now!
