Aren’t you fed up with people using that cop out phrase “it is what it is”? What does it actually mean? Well, I’m no clearer after enjoying a new single from top Canadian soul and funk combo THE SOUL MOTIVATORS. You see ‘It Is What It Is’ is the title of their brand-new single.
Lyrically, the explanation for the titular phrase is that you win some , you lose some but it’s the track’s sound that is the big attraction here. The tune is an uncomplicated, brassy, brash, old school soul workout with a Northern flavour. Lead vocalist Shahi Teruko tears through the lyric supported by a classic femme chorus and it quite takes your breath away!
