By common consent one of this year’s best soul singles so far has come from ALEXANDER MORRIS. Record in question paired two wonderful, proper soul cuts…. ‘Change Comin’ and ‘Love’s Knockin’’. “Lex” Morris turned in a classic old school performance, little wonder that Duke Fakir handpicked him to be the lead singer in the latest Four Tops line up. Duke knew of Morris’ gospel background (Morris has his own Gospel church in L.A., the J. Alexander Morris Ministries) and had no hesitation in bringing him into the Tops fold, though he accepts that Lex will continue to record solo too. Hence that last remarkable single.
Now Mr M follows that one up with something that soul commentators are agreeing is even better! Our man’s new tune is a catchy, upbeat confection with an old school vibe, ‘Isn’t She A Pretty Girl’. And the recording has even more Four Tops connections. You see the song was written by Ronnie McNeir (a current member of the legendary band) while the Detroit musicians on the track are marshalled by Earl Van Dyke Jr – music director, arranger and conductor for The Four Tops. Little wonder ‘Isn’t She A Pretty Girl’ ticks all the right boxes. One listen and you’ll be hooked … a future classic.
The song is good to download right now via ANGEL DOVE GLOBAL 812 MUSIC GROUP while IZIPHO SOUL RECORDS will be releasing the song on vinyl in the summer. Don’t miss it!
