At the back end of 2019 UK soulstress JO HARMAN released a lovely version of the country soul classic ‘Loving Arms’. Written by Tom Jans, the song has been recorded countless times – perhaps most famously by Dobie Gray. Ms Harman’s version was every bit as “authentic” as Gray’s or indeed as any of the many other covers.
Jo’s ‘Loving Arms’ was the focus cut on her ‘Signature Soul’ EP which also featured an interesting cover of the Beatles’ Don’t Let Me Down’. The whole EP was recorded as an unedited “live” set with backing courtesy of Redtenbacher’s Funkestra and that was obvious across the set’s five tracks.
Now, for reasons never fully explained, Jo and her team are re-promoting ‘Loving Arms’ in a “radio” edit. For this release a minute or so has been edited from the original version. It makes little difference. The cut still has impact and Ms H’s soulful delivery is still out front and “for real”.
