IN THE MIX…

MANNIX is one of Austria’s top soulful house DJs/Producers. Which begs the question, just how many are there? Whatever!

Our man’s been on the scene since the early 90s and has worked here, there and almost everywhere! His work, noted for using “real” musicians,  has been released on labels like AM: PM, Go Beat, Generate Music, Soundmen On Wax, Polydor and V2. For the last few years, though big M has been focusing on his own label, Dafia and we’ve featured plenty of classy cuts from the imprint in recent months . Check our archive to see what’s what.

However, if you want to immerse yourself in al things Dafia, then may we point you to a splendid compilation album that’s just been released. It goes by the rather imaginative title of ‘Dafia Records Remixes Volume 1’. It features 15 of the label’s best but, as it says on the tin, in “remix” format!

Because he’s the boss, Mannix delivers several remixes himself – like the jazzy, hypnotic, spoken-word ‘Reality’ from Corrado Alunni. Mannix gives it an  “Old School House Remix” featuring a loping, bouncy bass line reminiscent of a certain mix master, Opolopo… and speaking of him, the album features one mix from him too; it’s a tweak on Lisa Shaw’s 2022 outing ‘So Much Time’… lovely!

Amongst the other  highlights is Sister Pearl’s ‘The Calling’ now in a “T.Markakis Remix”. But if you’re a serious house head, cherry picking’s redundant. Here, one house classic seamlessly melds into another to keep that “up” party vibe going strong. In truth some of these remixes have been out before but it’s so convenient, with parties looming (hopefully) to have ‘em all in one nifty place! The album’s out now!
