IN GRANDMA’S HANDS…

New Orleans born soul singer, ACANTHA LANG has made plenty of waves over the last few years with her funky and feisty take on contemporary soul. Her debut album ‘Beautiful Dreams’ won plenty of plaudits and continues to reveal treasures

Thus it’s good to reveal that Ms L has some new  music for us to enjoy – and not just “some music”;  it’s something rather special – a funky cover of the Bill Withers’ classic ‘Grandma’s Hands’.

Acantha has released the song as a tribute to her own grandmother. She says: “Many think of a Grandmother as a sweet old lady who knits sweaters. But not my grandma! She was born and raised in Houma, Louisiana, away from the big city, but lived most of her life in New Orleans. She loved bourbon and coke (with an extra shot), watching football with a beer, and using cuss words when necessary. Her favourite phrase was ‘Baby! I ain’t nobody’s fool.’ She was the BEST cook and gave great hugs. I wanted my cover of Bill’s song to reflect her personality so I gave the song a bit of an edge. My Grandma knew how to get down! So in honour of her, I had to make it funky!”

For sure this ‘Grandma’s Hands’ is  funky – feisty and fierce too, and her grandmother would be proud of it! Importantly, it’s what all good covers should be – different to the original  but still respectful to the source. Out now!
