It’s an incredible fifty years since the fabulous IMPRESSIONS first came together, and to celebrate, award-winning DVD company Reelin’ In The Years Productions are releasing a wonderful collection highlighting some of the veteran group’s most memorable moments. Entitled ‘Movin’ On Up – The Music And Message Of Curtis Mayfield’ , the set features over twenty archive clips showing first the IMPRESSIONS, and then MAYFIELD as a solo artist performing a host of their classic titles including ‘It’s All Right’, ‘I Need You’, ‘We’re A Winner’, ‘Superfly’ and ‘The Makings Of You’. What’s more, the performances are linked with exclusive interviews with remaining IMPRESSIONS SAM GOODEN and FRED CASH, the group’s producer JOHNNY PATE, MAYFIELD’S widow ALTHEIDA and – most tellingly – Civil Rights Leader ANDREW YOUNG who relates how important the music of MAYFIELD was to the whole Civil Rights Movement. PUBLIC ENEMY’S CHUCK D is also featured talking about the contemporary relevance of the IMPRESSIONS, and to complete the package there’s a 28 page booklet which includes rare photos and extensive essays.
