The JAZZ DEFENDERS are a UK quintet marshalled by pianist George Cooper. An offshoot of the Haggis Horns, they came together in 2015 drawn by a mutual love and respect for soul-jazz and classic hard bop – the music of the Golden Age of Blue Note, if you would. Hear their take on the genre via their just-released single, ‘Meanderthal’. It’s a foot-stomping soul-jazz groove which really does hark back to those good old days – nor future in nostalgia hey!
This one’s out today, 23rd February via Haggis Records
