FOR THE CULTURE is a new soulful house team made up of Ground Records boss, Si Firmin and Bradley Be. Firmin has been on the scene since the 90s and has worked with people like Colonel Abrams, Michael Watford, Brian Chambers and Michelle Weeks while busy Be is another UK house vet whose CV includes work with David Morales, Normski, Bobby & Steve, and Boy George!
Their debut release is a catchy, ‘Nightlife’. It’s built round an irritatingly catchy, familiar riff while the song itself sounds oddly familiar too. It’s credited to Si and Bradley but if I were a plagiarism lawyer I’d say it was nicked from Bobby Womack’s classic ‘Daylight’ (check out great versions of that one from Kelly Rowland, Calvin Richardson and dear Georgie Fame) . Maybe, it’s that familiarity that makes this “new” ‘Nightlife’ so attractive. Whatever, it’s a good ‘un and it comes in original, 5AM, dub, radio and instrumental edits.
‘Nightlife’ is out now on Traxsource promo September 8th. Full release on September 20th 2023 on Grounded Records.
