New Orleans’ HOT 8 BRASS BAND are currently celebrating their 20th anniversary. The main focus of the big birthday is the release of the long player ‘Vicennial’ – a mix of new tunes and fresh recordings of their own classics like their take on ‘Sexual Healing’.
And for obvious reasons it’s the band’s quirky take on the Gaye classic that’s grabbing the headlines and the airplay… so much so that their label Tru Thoughts has just reissued the song as a single in no less than 9 mixes!
You, of course, get the original tweak and the acappela version but also lots more quirkiness from master mixers like Johnny Faith, J-Felix and the Ibibio Sound Machine. We’re liking the smooth “Space Captain” mix but our jury’s still out on the “Maddslinky” one which attempts to take the tune into house territory.
The new mixes will be available from December 11th.
