COLEMINE RECORDS are making quite a name for themselves this year (see previous posts) and one of their most anticipated albums is THE HARLEM GOSPEL TRAVELERS’ ‘Look Up’ which is due for release in September.
In the meantime, the trio of Travelers (Thomas Gatling, George Marage and Dennis Bailey) have just released a single, the energized, riff-heavy and insistent ‘Hold Your Head Up’. Though, it’s obvious that the song draws on the classic gospel tradition, its sound is totally contemporary . Indeed it’s a reflection of the tumultuous past few years of pandemic anxiety, political chaos, and social unrest and is the follow up to the band’s last single, the LP’s title track which was acclaimed throughout the soul/gospel community. The two tunes (both produced by Eli “Paperboy” Reed) auger well for the album which is due September 16th. In the meantime, ‘Hold Your Head Up’ is good to go now via Colemine.
