HITTING THE SOFT SPOT

Over the last ten years or so, the CALIFORNIA HONEYDROPS have built up a strong and steady coterie of fans mesmerised by their  quirky mix of Bay Area R&B, funk, Southern soul, Delta blues, and New Orleans second line – all put together with an honest enthusiasm and a garnish of humour as befits their roots as street buskers!

Right now the band are preparing the release of a new album, ‘Soft Spot’ – due very soon. (cover pictured above). While we wait, the gang are releasing a new single, tomorrow, September 8th. It’s a totally sweet and lovely ‘Nothing At All’. The cut is gentle and relaxing and features a wonderful, soulful, frail falsetto supported by classic harmonies. This recommended ‘Nothing At All’ is right on the current, contemporary soul vibe peddled by bands like Thee Sacred Soul and Durand Jones and the Indications. If you like that “retrophile” sound, I guarantee that you’ll love ‘Nothing At All’ .

Th song is actually about the unintended consequences of us wanting something we can hold on to. We may destroy everything trying to get a little certainty and safety, which is something we can all relate to! Noble sentiments, but it’s the sound that will captivate. We’re looking forward to ‘Soft Spot’ already!
