Last month we highlighted a single from American blue-eyed soulster DANNY KEAN. The mid tempo groove ‘You Love Me’ is the lead cut from Danny’s new mini album ‘Here It is’ which has just been released.
Danny hails from Farmingdale, New York and, blind since birth, he mastered the piano at an early age. Blessed with perfect pitch, he soon found a job on Sesame Street (honest!) and was soon playing the bars and lounges of New York City.
Since then Danny’s worked with people like Maxine Brown, Lenny Kravitz, Steve Harvey and Gary US Bonds and fronted his own band, Danny Kean and Friends. He released a solo album back in 2011 and since then his talent has taken him to festivals and gigs worldwide.
His new ‘Here It Is’ EP showcases Danny’s take on soul, and two cuts in particular reflect his interest in vintage soul – especially the music of Motown. ‘I Can’t Wait’ is particularly effective … like they used to says its “finger-clicking good” – a future blue-eyed soul classic (great piano too, but you would expect that). ‘When The Cat’s Away’ offers more of the same while that single ‘You Love Me’ is a tad more contemporary in feel. In truth I could do without the rocky ‘Deal With It’ though Danny’s cover of Neil Young’s ‘Heart Of Gold’ offers plenty of interest.
