HAPPY CHRISTMAS!

Wow! Yes, it’s still October but we’ve just “enjoyed” our first new Christmas record! It’s ‘No Time To Be Sad’ from KELLY FINNIGAN of the Monophonics. Intriguingly it doesn’t sound too much like a Christmas song, though the lyrics reference the fact that Christmas is no time to feel down (though with Covid looming, I think we might all need to accept a level of depression!). Sonically, ‘No Time To Be Sad’ is a dense soul ballad with a classic spoken part.

The song is the first single from Finnigan’s upcoming album… ‘A Joyful Sound’, which, you’ve guessed, is his Christmas collection. We’re told the album features input from people like Durand Jones & The Indications, The Dap-Kings, Ghost Funk Orchestra and Finnigan’s own band the Monophonics

The singer says that amongst the inspirational sources for the album was Phil Spector’s Christmas classic collection which might explain the denseness of ‘It’s No Time To Be Sad’ – which is out now! We’ll have to wait for a much more sensible December 18th for the full LP.
