UK-based indie label bbe Records (Barely Breaking Even) are currently celebrating their 15th anniversary… quiet an achievement in these precarious times!
The label launched in the Autumn of 1996 with the first in their ‘Stop And Listen’ compilations and since then they’ve never really looked back ‘cept, of course, when it comes to reissuing some great vintage music.
The label now boasts a catalogue of 160 albums and to celebrate bbe have just issued a two CD anthology that cherry picks the very best of that extensive list. The music has been seamlessly mixed by CHRIS READ and he’s chosen cuts by the likes of MARLEY MARL, ROY AYERS, MILLION DOLLAR ORCHESTRA, PETE ROCK, DJ VADIM, JAZZY JEFF and KING BRITT. All in all there’s a dazzling variety of sounds and styles – from funk and soul to disco and Latin as well as house and hip hop and beyond. It’s a great reflection of what the little label has achieved. “Real music for real people”… learn more at www.bbemusic.com
