We first came across ELLISON KENDRICK last year via his double A-sided single, ‘Got It Going On’/ ‘The Only One’. We learned that Ellison is a Miami-born/Jamaican-heritage soul man who honed his art in the church. Going “secular”, he signed Betty Wright’s Mrs B record label and then moved on to EKG Records before starting his own imprint, Nosille Music. We believe that he’s also performed with a vocal group, the Black Suits, named for the hit ‘Black Suit’.
His latest single is a mid-tempo chugger, ‘Halfway’. No surprise that there’s a Southern soul flavour to the cut and it’s clear that Mr Ks background is in the church. It’s a sort of Anthony Hamilton sound.
‘Halfway’ is out now and it’s already had a big impact Stateside, debuting @ number 1 on amazonmusic R&B CHART
