LAURA RAIN AND THE CAESARS are a hard-gigging soul and blues band working in and around Detroit. At their core are husband and wife team – guitarist George Friend and vocalist Laura Rain. Their signature sound is a contemporary take on classic urban blues with an undertow of funk and a garnish of vintage R&B. Their acclaimed 2017 LP, ‘Walk With Me’ was a perfect summation of what they’re about. The title cut, for instance, was an energized blues romp with a Northern soul feel to it and it won plenty of fans.
With recording and gigging opportunities currently limited, Laura and the band have come up with a novel way of presenting their music… what they call a “Soul Journey”. In the last several months and over the next few, they’re releasing/released four singles all proffering their special sound. The tunes are pacey, almost Northern ‘Soul Creature’, a Memphis-flavoured ‘If I Can’t Have You’, a biting, bluesy ‘Different State of Mind’ and a breezy ‘The Deal’.
