KYRA (Vidal) is a new(ish) kid on the UK soul block. Working out of West London, she’s quickly established herself as a key player in the UK contemporary neo-soul scene. She enjoyed acclaim and plenty of radio coverage with her debut project ‘Xanadu’ which she now follows with an EP, ‘As Things Grow’.
The mini album is a four tracker with the tune grabbing the attention right now being the really, really good, ‘Excellent’ (we nearly said it’s excellent – but that’s a cheap shot!). The cut is a classic slice of neo-soul with a touch of the Corinne Bailey Rae’s about it . The track also features some lovely jazzy horn work – adding to the relaxing, laid back nature of the song. It is really quite lovely and needs investigating. The EP’s other tracks are ‘After The Love’, ‘Blossom Spring’ and ‘Grown’ – offering different neo-soul/jazzy colourings.
Of the EP, Kyra says it’s an exploration of self, whilst also delving into the relationships between the differing dynamics of identity as a whole. Hope you got that! But it’s the soundscape that delivers. Do try ‘Excellent’ – it is rather good and it’s out now!
