Soul anoraks and the seekers of the rare are in for a treat when Rock Beat Records issues ‘Groove & Grind: Rare Soul’, a collection of real soul rarities with nearly all the tracks making their CD debut.
The box set, which comes with a 127 page hard back book written by soul expert Bill Dahl, contains four discs –each focusing on a particular theme. Disc 1 deals with Urban soul; disc 2 offers the best of the rare harmony groups; disc 3 collects some remarkable southern soul; and disc 4 goes for the funk jugular!
Featured artists include, Don Gardner, The Jelly Beans, Betty Lavette , Donald Height, Tommy Hunt, Lou Courtney, The Vontastics, The Montclairs and Candi Staton. Amongst the ultra rare sounds are ‘Hard To Find The Right Girl’ by Kenny Gamble And The Romeos and the remarkable ‘It’s All Wrong (It’s All Right)’ from cult icon Sam Dees.
