For its newest release, collectors‘ label MATASUNA RECORDS has dug out two rare, in-demand funk cuts.
The A side of their upcoming 7“ is ‘Getting Uptown (To Get Down)‘ by United 8. The song was first released on Atlantic in 1972 and it’s an infectious, looose funk gem. The rhythm is distinctive and a proper call to the floor. Crate diggers might know that the track featured on the 2005 ‘Atlantiquity‘ remix album and it’s cropped up on various other funk compliations too.
The new vinyl’s B side comes from Tony Alvon & The Belairs and their cut is an energentic funk workout called ‘Sexy Coffee Pot‘ – if you never thought a coffee pot could be sexy, then grab a listen!
Our friendly crate diggers might also tell you that both tracks appeared on an Atlantic/ Warner Strategic Marketing 7“ release in 2004. Those sell now for around £20. This new Matasuna issue is officially licensed and has been remastered. It’s out March 17th.
