Earlier this year we highlighted a tasty single, ‘You Got 2 Love’ from ST PAUL PETERSON. The cut has a distinct Prince flavour –hardly surprising since the Minnesota-based Peterson family had enjoyed a long musical relationship with the Purple One. Prince dubbed young keyboardist Paul Peterson, “St Paul” and recruited him into The Time.
Paul went on to feature in the ‘Purple Rain’ movie and worked with The Family. Since then, he’s worked solo and as a writer and producer and last year he was the musical director and front man for the show ‘Nothing Compares 2 Prince’.
‘You Got 2 Love’ did reasonably well on release but Paul believed it could have done a little better – especially in the UK and Europe. To that end, he’s had the tune specially remixed for the UK market and the result is a very fine slab of modern soul. It has that special UK sound but there’s still a Prince undercurrent and a build up of subtle funk towards the end … recommended!
