Grammy-winning Chicago singer KURT ELLING – regarded by some critics as the finest male jazz singer in the world right now (though Gregory Porter fans might disagree, perhaps) – returns with his fifth album for Concord in the shape of ‘Passion World,’ comprising twelve varied songs that explore the vicissitudes of love via material originating from different centuries around the globe. Featuring songs from France, Brazil, Ireland, Cuba, Scotland, Germany and even Iceland, it’s an ambitious project but Elling manages to unify all of the album’s disparate elements to create a compelling and cohesive song cycle whose focus is romance. Contributing musicians include Arturo Sandoval, Till Bronner, and accordionist, Richard Galliano. The release date is 8th June.
