After a six-year hiatus, LA soul and funk goddess Nikka Costa releases a new single today. It’s called ‘Dirty Disco’ and is plucked as a taster from the same-titled ten-track album, which is scheduled for a June 7th release.

The addictive track is a catchy chunk of throbbing, Prince-tinged electro disco-funk. It’s co-produced by Beck collaborator Justin Stanley and features Kamasi Washington’s keyboardist Brandon Coleman plus session legend Greg Phillinganes, whose credits range from Michael Jackson to Neil Diamond.

Says Nikka, the daughter of legendary Sinatra arranger, Don Costa: “‘Dirty Disco’ is a song about a place anyone can go to be themselves and let their freak flag fly! It’s about a place where no one is looking, no one cares what you’re doing or what you’re into. It could be a disco, but it could also be another planet or headspace or vibe. It’s dark and sparkly, blue and purple. Gritty, raw and sexy. Whatever you want it to be. ‘Everyone is welcome, everyone’s an Avatar.’”
