GET STUFF...

Fans of ’70s jazz-funk-fusion should get a kick out of seeing a new DVD on Eagle Vision that focuses on a stunning live performance by the US supergroup, STUFF. It captures the band – which comprised guitarists ERIC GALE and CORNELL DUPREE, pianist RICHARD TEE, bassist GORDON EDWARDS and drummer STEVE GADD – on stage at the 1976 Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland. The hour-long DVD includes the band’s high-octane instrumental versions of Stevie Wonder’s ‘Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I’m Yours’ and ‘Boogie On Reggae Woman.’ The concert is also available in CD-only format. Talking of ERIC GALE, there’s a new untitled three-track EP of previously unissued songs now available via Douglass Records at iTunes Plus. There’s no information available as to when the legendary session guitarist – who died in 1994 aged 56 – recorded the songs ‘Feelin’ Alright,’ (there’s a version of the same Dave Mason-penned and Traffic/Joe Cocker-associated song on the new Stuff DVD), ‘Chained’ and ‘Sing A Simple Song’ (a cover of the Sly & The Family Stone hit) though the style and recording quality would seem to suggest the performances date from the early-’70s. Fans of Gale’s late-’70s CBS albums, ‘Ginseng Woman’ and ‘Multiplication,’ will certainly want to investigate the EP.
