Proper soul buffs know all about THE TRAMMPS and Philly fans revere their work. Songs like ‘Zing! Went The Strings of My Heart’, ‘Sixty Minute Man’, ‘Disco Inferno’, ‘Hold Back The Night’ and ‘That’s Where the Happy People Go’ were and will always remain classics.

After their heyday, the group split up and eventually two versions of the group, with differing line-ups, toured the oldies circuit but purists would agree that only an Earl Young-led Trammps can be the real deal. In 2012 lead singer Jimmy Ellis died and that seemed to be that, but drummer Young put a new team together and they’ve just released an incendiary new single – ‘Get Your Lovin”.

The song was written by The Steals Brothers, who penned hits like ‘Could It Be I’m Falling In Love’ for the Spinners and ‘Honeybee for Gloria Gaynor and this new song meets the high standards of those two. It features two vocalists – one who does a semi-spoken thing (Earl Young himself) and a chest-beating soul man who comes on like a cross between Teddy Pendergrass and Marvin Junior, and that can’t be a bad thing can it? Indeed it’s no exaggeration to say that the song could be a long lost Philly gem from Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes.

Earl Young says of the recording : “We were jammin’ with some great Philly musicians…you play live or go home! That’s how we do it in Philly.”
