Last time we heard from UK soul outfit THE SOUL CITY ORCHESTRA they were fronted by Glasgow sax man Jimmy Gallagher. Working with veteran producer and mixer Nigel Lowis, Jimmy and the Orchestra put out a few tasty sides – notably the floor filling ‘Soul City Theme’.
Now Mr Lowis and the Orchestra are back with a new single which over two sides – ‘The GET DOWN THEME’ and ‘GET DOWN & HUSTLE’ – invites you to the floor and strut your stuff like you did back in the day to Van McCoy, MFSB, The Salsoul Orchestra and Big Barry’s Love Unlimited outfit. Not sure if Mr Gallagher’s still with the Soul City crew but, with or without them, they kick up a proper, old fashioned disco storm. The music is available now via the DSG web site.
And busy Nigel Lowis has also found time to re-edit his ‘The Get Down Theme’ . The new edit keeps all that glitter ball magic and throws in a generous helping of blaxploitation to keep that glitter ball spinning. Out now.
