REUBEN JAMES is a new age Brit soul star. The singer/pianist might be best known via his input on Sam Smith’s 4 million-selling album ‘The Thrill of it All’. Reuben co-wrote some of the songs; he’s since written for and performed with the likes of Tori Kelly, Little Mix, Disclosure, Col3trane and Liam Payne to name a few.
He’s currently preparing his own album – which right now he’s simply calling a mixtape. A couple of singles from the set have been well received but the latest single is really turning heads and ears. It’s a gorgeous, laid back, lazy neo-soul offering ‘Closer’. The tune features Brighton-born singer Sophie Faith, rapper Jay Prince and New York bassist Carrtoons and it properly shimmers in the way that D’Angelo’s classics did. It really is infectious and never mind Sam Smith – Reuben James sounds like the real deal!
