Latest venture from European boutique label SOUL4REAL sees the team enter the vinyl EP market with the release of two very special 4 trackers – from, as our headline suggests, the Motown vault.
The first ‘FROM DETROIT WITH LOVE’ mini album delivers four remarkable Motown oldies from what many connoisseurs believe to be the label’s golden age – the mid-60s. The tracks are KIM WESTON – ‘FANCY MEETING YOU’; THE MIRACLES – ‘SHOW ME YOU CAN DANCE’; J.J. BARNES – ‘I´M HERE NOW THAT YOU NEED ME’ and THE TEMPTATIONS – ‘’I´D RATHER FORGET.’ All are real rarities (never released at the time they were recorded) and though at least a couple have appeared on CD compilations this is the first time that they’ve appeared on vinyl. To cut to the chase …the music is classic, vintage Motown. Kim Weston’s track will make you realize (again) why Motown music is so magical while it’s hard to understand why the Eddie Kendricks led ‘I’d Rather Forget’ was never released back in the day on the Tempts.
The cuts on ‘FROM DETROIT WITH LOVE II’ are BRENDA HOLLOWAY – MY WORLD IS CRUMBLING; CAROLYN CRAWFORD – UNTIL YOU CAME ALONG ; GLADYS KNIGHT & THE PIPS – ANY GIRL IN LOVE (KNOWS WHAT I´M GOING THROUGH ; MARTHA REEVES & THE VANDELLAS – EARTHQUAKE and, again, though they have all previousy appeared on reissue compilations, this is the first time for these rare gems to be on the medium for which they meant – vinyl!
