The latest release from DJ SPEN’S Quantize Recordings resurrects a bona fide Philly soul classic – the Gamble-Huff penned ‘Free Love’ which (till now?) will always be associated with the lovely Jean Carne.

This new version of ‘Fee Love’ comes courtesy of Italian house don MARCO VALERY with assistance from DJ FOPP (who some might know as “Funktrain”). Adding proper soul to proceedings is vocalist SHARLENE HECTOR – some time Basement Jaxx collaborator – and I tell you what – she gives Ms Carne a proper run for her money.

The original Valery/Fopp mix takes the tune right back to the disco – Chic-style guitars, Linn drums, the lot! However you’ll guess that the cut comes in a welter of mixes and right now we’re liking Spen’s own tweak. With assistance from Michele Chiavarini, they take ‘Free Love’ back to Philadelphia. Mixes from Opolopo and Mr Fopp on his own are quirkier – but you’d expect that!

This new ‘Free Love’ is already being tipped to be one of summer 2017’s big tunes… little wonder!
