Earlier this year Creole-American singer and NIKKOLE (Hall) impressed with her album, ‘Vulnerable’. Produced by veteran soul man Leon Sylvers, it was a pleasing mix of contemporary soul and lighter poppy dancers.
Without doubt, the soul highlight was her cover of the Marvin Gaye-penned/Originals’ recorded ‘We Can Make It If We Try’ (you might remember, the Originals’ version was just called ‘We Can Make It Baby’). Now, to meet demand, Nikkole’s people have wisely decided to release the lovely cut as a single. Nikkole delivers with real conviction and helping out on the duet is Leon Sylvers IV. Lovely layered harmonies in the manner of the original and a full-on production make this an admirable cover and if you’ve not checked it yet, may we point you in its direction. Out now
