Listeners to the better soul stations over the past few days might well have come across (and been mightily impressed) by a tune called ‘Fool’ from a new artist who goes by the name RAE. Not a lot is known about the artist right now, but it seems her real name is Raechelle Burns and that she hails from L.A. We’re told that ‘Fool’ is her debut outing, but the performance and emotional depth shown on the track betray real maturity and experience. ‘Fool’ is a subtly produced but searing ballad that could’ve come right out of the 60s or 70s. Too good for the mainstream? Maybe… but not for proper soul fans!
