  • FLYING HIGH – ANTONIO SANCHEZ’S BIRDMAN SCORE GETS FIRST SOLO FLIGHT IN UK

Noted Mexican-born American drummer/composer, ANTONIO SANCHEZ – who is a quadruple Grammy winner – will be coming to London’s Barbican venue on Saturday 4th of May to perform his acclaimed soundtrack to Birdman, the 2014 Grammy-winning satirical comedy drama directed by Alejandro G. Inarritu which starred actor Michael Keaton. Sanchez’s highly original score – consisting mainly of improvised solo drum pieces – deservedly won a Critics’ Choice Movie Award and was also  for both a Golden Globe and BAFTA.

With his seventh album, ‘Lines In The Sand,’ just released, Sanchez is without doubt a significant contemporary jazz artist and composer. As a sideman, he’s also played alongside some of the idiom’s biggest names, including Chick Corea, Gary Burton, Herbie Hancock, Michael Brecker and Pat Metheny.

He will be performing the Birdman soundtrack for the first time ever in the UK as part of La Linea, London’s Latin music festival with runs from 24th April to May 5th. The drummer, in what is a unique performance, will perform the score live while the film is being projected behind him.
