If you’ve been tuning to the more savvy soul stations in the last few weeks, odds are that you will have come across a delicious, laid back soul vibe –‘Keep Falling For It’ from a trio – JONSON, JONSON & JONSON.
We’ve learned that the 3Js are a blue-eyed soul team with a background in production and writing. They are Danny Schogger on piano, Joe Cang on bass and vocals and Phil Thornalley on drums and their people tell us that they decided to call themselves “Jonson, Jonson & Jonson” because “Cang, Schogger and Thornalley” sounded like a team of dodgy solicitors or crooked accountants!
Actually, that doesn’t matter; what matter’s is the music and ‘Keep Falling For It’ (in both its vocal and instrumental incarnations) is a remarkable piece of work. It’s thoroughly modern but it clearly has its roots in prime time, reflective Marvin Gaye – yes, it’s that good!
FYI Danny Schogger has written and produced hits for Celine Dion and performed with George Michael. Joe Cang co-wrote the No. 1 ‘Shine’ for Aswad, worked with Hall & Oates as well as releasing music as a solo artist signed with the legendary Clive Davis. And Phil has written songs for Natalie Imbruglia and performed in Bryan Adams’ band. So these guys know what they’re about and ‘Keep Falling For It’ proves it!
The tune’s been around since last year and Ramrock’s Jo Wallace stumbled across it during a late night trawl of the internet at the end of 2023. She knew right away that this heartbreakingly, beautiful composition would be a perfect fit for her label. She’s right. It’s out now and if we had a “Record Of The Week” – this would be it. Go on – take it for a test drive!
