Last November, the UK soul community was impressed with a single from Oxfordshire-based blue-eyed soulstress ABI FARRELL. Tune in question was a lovely ‘I Will See You Through’ – a clever and convincing recreation of the classic girl group sound… hardly surprising – Abi say she loves the whole Brill Building thing while her music heroines number Aretha, Chaka Khan and all those 60s uptown girl groups!
Ms F has just launched the follow-up, the funkier, gutsy, bustling ‘Empowered’. Abi says: “The song focuses on the phenomenon of emotional gaslighting in modern relationships and the ultimate realisation that one should never need permission to be authentically themselves” and the tough sound and Mitch Ayling production underpin the sentiment.
Abi Farrell’s ‘’Empowered’ is out now via Big AC Records. For those who prefer vinyl there’s a limited edition 7” which offers the sweet and lovely ‘I Will See You Through’ as the B side.
