EGO TRIPPING OUT…

jb

JB BINGHAM is a soul connoisseurs’ soul man. He worked for United Artists in the 70s and his 1976 outing for that label, ‘All Alone By The Telephone’ remains his best known single. That track was recorded under the auspices of H B Barnum and Steve Binder who worked with Bingham at UA on six other songs. One, ‘Live And You Learn,’ was on the B side of ‘All Alone’ while there was one further UA 45 – ‘She’s Gone’/’Keep On Walking’.

UK reissue label, SOUL JUNCTION, recently go in touch with Mr Bingham to find out about the rest of his UA recordings and after consultation with H B Barnum they managed to broker a deal… the result being a new vinyl 45 pairing two of those mid 70s United Artists outings.

The A side is the urgent, insistent ‘People On An Ego Trip’. It’s a great mid-tempo groove – perfect for today’s sophisticated modern soul scene and as you’d imagine with Barnum at the controls, the production is spot on….dig the harmonies and the brief sax break. ‘She’s On Strike’, the disc’s flip side, offers a different slant on JB Bingham. It’s a slow grind of tune – not quite a ballad; it’s a rather sombre outing with a big Barnum production and a great vocal.

The single is available now on SOUL JUNCTION RECORDS … find out more @ www.souljunctionrecords.co.uk
