American new agencies are reporting the death at age 66 of EDWARD “DWIGHT” FIELDS, singer with one version of the Manhattans.

Few details are currently available other than that his passing adds to the recent sad events that have affected the group. (The deaths of “Blue” Lovett, Sonny Bivens and Kenneth “Wally” Kelly)

Fields was the cousin of Manhattan, Gerald Alston and indeed in the late 60s they worked together in a gospel group, The New Imperials. After Gerald joined the Manhattans, Dwight formed the Authentics.

In 1997 Alston invited Dwight to join his version of the Manhattans and two years later he assumed lead vocal duties after the death of “Blue” Lovett
