Entitled ‘Chocolate Drops’ it’s to be released on the man’s own Sophisticated Soul Label…. and “sophisticated soul” is a perfect description for the album’s lead single….a gentle but insinuating head nodder called ‘Never Say No (To You)’.
The ultra classy mid-tempo item proves again that Mr Downing is a master of the smooth soul genre and the more I listen to the intimate little ditty the more I can hear shades of the great Luther Vandross. Whatever, it’s a great little tune and sets up the album perfectly.
