EMMA SMITH is a London-based jazz singer whose latest single is set to make waves. It’s a new, laid back version of the 50s standard ‘Old Cape Cod’. The evocative and nostalgia-packed song was a huge hit for Patti Page in 1957. More modern readers will know it via Groove Armada’s ‘At The River’ which used some of the melody and lyrics from that original.
Emma’s new version is more akin to the Patti Page original – laid back and relaxing, painting a warm picture of childhood and/or romantic holidays by the sea. Nostalgia never sounded so good!
We’re told that this new ‘Old Cape Cod’ is the first in a series of singles that pay homage to Emma Smith’s grandfather, a trombone player who was in Frank Sinatra’s band for over twenty years and also played with the likes of Sammy Davis Jr, Oscar Peterson and Barbara Streisand… plenty to look forward to!
