DEE DEE WARWICK is every soul connoisseur’s favourite, though sadly she never earned the mainstream plaudits (and big bucks) of older sister Dionne with whom she began her career in the Drinkard Singers and then the Gospelaires.
Dee Dee’s solo career never produced the big hits that Dionne enjoyed but her solo output is revered by all proper soul fans and indeed she was twice nominated for a Grammy.
After spells with Leiber and Stoller and Mercury, Dee Dee’s solo career saw her pacted with Atlantic/Atco in the 70s. The liaison produced 5 singles and one long player. In 2014 US reissue label Real Gone released a double album featuring all of Dee Dee’s Atco work and now UK specialist label SOUL JUNCTION have licensed two of those songs for a great double A sided 7″ vinyl single.
The new 45 features the Ed Townshend penned ‘You Tore My Wall Down’ – a busy, bustling dancer and the Ashford/Simpson song ‘Can’t Wait Until Tomorrow’ – a more wistful venture. Dee Dee’s in fine form on both reinforcing sister Dionne’s contention that Dee Dee was always the better singer of the siblings!
Both tunes make their vinyl debut here and you can learn more @ www.souljunctionrecords.co.uk
